Púca Festival will be returning to Co. Meath again this year from October 27-31, 2023, and invites both domestic and international guests to attend and celebrate the Celtic festival of Samhain. As is tradition, the festival will host a range of events including music, comedy, storytelling, feasting, and other immersive experiences. Confirmed acts include The Waterboys, The Charlatans, Damien Dempsey, Hot House Flowers, Macy Gray, with many more yet to be announced.
Originating from Irish and Celtic traditions, Samhain is a time to celebrate the end of the harvest season and to mark the beginning of winter. In ancient times, it was an occasion where the boundaries between the living and the dead were believed to be blurred, and spirits could roam freely on Earth. In time, this would become an annual celebration where people would celebrate those who had passed, and place offerings before them on Samhain. People would light bonfires, feast on the harvested crops, and engage in storytelling and music. The annual holiday was also associated with the belief in shape-shifting spirits called Púca, that come alive at ancient new year to roam the night and change the fortunes of those who cross it.
Fast forward to 2019 when the Púca Festival was created by Fáilte Ireland in partnership with Meath County Council, celebrating Ireland as the birthplace of Halloween. Hosted in both Trim and Athboy in Co. Meath, the festival honours Celtic tradition by providing an immersive and authentic experience for visitors who are looking to involve themselves in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain.
Púca Festival has become a must on the bucket lists of those travelling to Ireland around Halloween, as one of Ireland’s staple events, and Harris PR is delighted to support Fáilte Ireland, Meath County Council and MPI Artists once again to promote the festival through PR, media relations, social media management, influencer marketing, and an international press trip. This year’s festival promises not to disappoint, enchanting visitors as they learn about ancient Celtic traditions. Put Púca on your must-do list this Halloween!
