From Crisps to Clean Energy: Tayto’s Solar Shift in Ashbourne

When Tayto set out to take a major step towards more sustainable manufacturing, the result was a landmark rooftop solar installation at its Ashbourne facility, delivered in partnership with Activ8 Solar Energies.

Backed by an investment of over €1.17 million, the project now sees 1,734 solar panels generating clean, renewable energy onsite, supplying approximately 10% of the factory’s annual power needs and producing around 667 MWh each year. Beyond the numbers, the impact is tangible: a significant reduction in carbon emissions and a stronger, more resilient energy model for one of Ireland’s most recognisable brands.

As energy costs rise and climate targets tighten, projects like this highlight a growing shift across Irish manufacturing, where businesses are taking control of their energy future through onsite generation. Supported by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, this initiative stands as a clear example of industry leading from the front.

We supported the announcement through media relations and an on-site photocall, helping bring visibility to the scale and impact of the project.
