Excitement filled the grounds of Lucan House on Friday, 21st November 2025 as a packed audience welcomed the spectacular opening of The Christmas Circus of Wonders and Curiosities, a Broken Theatre production proudly supported by South Dublin County Council. Inspired by A Christmas Carol, the show followed the journey of Mr. Scrooge as he rediscovers the joy of Christmas through the wonder of the circus.
Harris PR were delighted to host media and distinguished guests at the opening night where audiences were treated to a breath-taking blend of high-flying aerial acts, contortion, clowning, dance hoops, fire performances, and beautiful live music, all set against the atmospheric backdrop of the historic Lucan House estate.
The production marked a cultural milestone for South Dublin, as the event was the first commercial performance staged on the historic Lucan House estate. Formerly the Italian ambassador’s residence, the estate is now owned by South Dublin County Council and is being reimagined as a centre for community arts, heritage, and tourism.
Jane Murray, Artistic Director of Broken Theatre, commented:
“Broken Theatre is thrilled to bring this immersive production to Lucan House. Seeing audiences respond with such joy and excitement on opening night was incredibly special. We are proud to present a show that captures the wonder of the festive season while celebrating this historic site’s new role as a space for community and cultural events.”
Mairéad Murphy, Senior Staff Officer at South Dublin County Council, said:
“We are thrilled to see Lucan House taking its next steps as a vibrant cultural and community hub. This collaboration with Broken Theatre highlights the estate’s creative potential and its ability to host world-class performances in a unique and historic setting.”
