Activ8 Solar Energies, Ireland’s leading solar provider, officially energised the Liffey Meats Solar Farm in late 2025, in partnership with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and Liffey Meats. As Ireland’s largest behind-the-meter, co-located renewable energy installation, the project represents a major milestone for renewable energy adoption within the agri-food sector.
The €3 million development combines a 4.5MW solar farm with an existing 3MW wind turbine at Liffey Meats’ Ballyjamesduff facility in Co. Cavan, creating a powerful on-site renewable energy solution that enhances energy resilience while significantly reducing carbon emissions.
The project launch was supported by a dedicated PR campaign, with strategic media relations driving strong national and regional coverage. This included the coordination of an on-site photocall, briefing and securing Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Niamh Smyth’s attendance and comment, and managing media engagement to clearly communicate the project’s national significance. The campaign played a key role in positioning Activ8 Solar Energies at the forefront of Ireland’s renewable energy conversation.
Comprising 6,640 high efficiency solar panels, each with an output of 700 watts, the solar farm will deliver substantial environmental benefits, generating enough clean electricity to offset approximately 590,000kg of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
